Ski & Snowboard Tuning Services
For tuning, we have a state-of-the art, fully automated, Wintersteiger Microjet tuning machine. While most newer tuning machines have a base re-finisher that makes the bottom of the ski look like new, the Microjet takes that a step further to include getting the base and side edges of the ski back to manufacturer’s spec and refinishes the edge with a ceramic disc polish.
The tuning of the edge is what makes the difference in the way that the ski or snowboard holds on ice, and no one can match our Microjet with an edge tune by hand!
We are the only place in Ohio where you can get your base and side edges of your ski and snowboard back to the original manufacturer’s spec! And this service is a great value starting at $38 including base, edges, and wax! The Microjet Tune is only available at our State Rd. location.

Boot Fitting Services
We take great pride in our Boot Fitting here at Buckeye. We’ve invested heavily in equipment and training to offer our customers the best experience on the hill- and proper fitting boots is a major element in making that happen. We are a certified PPS (Personalized Performance Specialist) boot fitting center. The great thing about the PPS system is that its goal is making boots more comfortable and more fun for even the weekend intermediate enthusiast. It is important to know that PPS can benefit every level of skier.
PPS is a three-step program in building toward combining the best performance and comfort combination available in ski boots today. For most people, just going through step one or step two will enhance their experience and comfort better than they could have imagined. But, if you want to, we can take it all the way through to give you the most customized boot fit available in North America.
STEP 1- ACTIVE FOOTBED:
PPS preaches keeping the foot active within the boot. Therefore, you need a pliable footbed that will react to the movements of your foot. We are no longer “locking” your foot in-place with a posted or hard footbed- We are filling in the excess space with a softer, more comfortable footbed that reacts and rebounds energy that is given to it by the foot inside the boot. Even today, there are hundreds of shops still preaching the posted footbed that was developed in the 1980’s. While locking your foot in place does give you arch support, it is not helping comfort and it not helping balance the foot in lateral and side-to-side movements that are required to turn the newer technology shaped skis!
STEP 2- SHELL CUSTOMIZATION:

While our first priority is getting the customer into the appropriate shell, quite often people have feet that are not perfectly lined with the rigid, generic shell that the ski boot manufacturers produce. If you have a low ankle or odd bulges in you foot you are no longer out-of-luck! We can heat up and customize the shell to fit your foot. Furthermore, with the enhancements in shaped skis, boots have been slow to adjust to the new flex patterns that are required to make the skis work the way that they should. |
Quite often opening up the inside of the ankle of the shell will allow for more freedom to flex the boot and drive the boot into a turn easier. It makes skiing easier and we’re not putting you into an uncomfortable boot that is too small!
STEP 3- BOOT PLANING:
We are the only ski shop in Ohio offering this service! Ever wonder why you can make right turns better than left turns or why you can’t seem to get that right ski on edge?

Boot Planing is not a new art, but when combined with steps 1 and 2 (which hasn’t been done before) it can offer you the best control available in skiing today. Over 80% of skiers are unbalanced on the mountain at least 1 degree. |
Sometimes that degree is merely an imperfection in the sole of the boot and is never noticed. Boot Planing is removing material from the sole of the boot to make the skier balanced on the snow. The cheaters way of doing this is adding shims underneath your foot in the boot, but that alters the fit of your foot inside the boot. It also angles your foot differently within the shell making so that you can’t flex properly in all directions. Boot Planing does not alter the fit of the boot at all and provides concrete and precise results-

Combining these three steps will give you the best on-hill experience for performance and comfort. It probably actually helps the novice skier more than the veteran who has learned to compensate on the hill for his imperfections. These practices are preached at all of our stores, but the tools and machinery are located at our State Rd. store.
